Doug and Cath Matthews  were  declared the winners of the 23rd Omokoroa Vets Mixed 4 Day Tournament played last month. Playing for  the Shergold Trophy, sponsored by Tauranga Citroen and the Omokoroa Country Estate. The course was in excellent condition with the greens running at just under 10 on the stimpmeter. Not too fast but fast enough to make the greens quite tricky but still enjoyable for the competitors. Four days of hard fought matchplay ensued and stories were being told of being up or down, winning and losing, extra holes being played and in some cases where they walked in from hole 15. It all came down to the wire with Doug and Cath Matthews all square with Jerry and Julia Kuggeleijn coming down the last. An agonising few minutes on the green until, eventually, Doug and Cath were declared the victors. After speeches from one of the sponsors, Don Cambell from the National Seniors Executive and the winner, Doug Matthews who is also on the executive everyone went away with a prize.

Group 2. Winner, Paddy and Susan Edmonds. Runners up, Rod and Janice Murray.

Group 3. Winner, Alan and Yvonne Allsworth. Runners up, Ray and Elsa Bygrave.

Group 4. Winner, Chris and Katherine Paskins. Runners up, Tony and Allison Fraei.
