Templeton Go Back-to-Back In Presidents Interclub

Sunday 3 April saw all 14 Presidents teams competing at Clearwater Golf Club. Overcast conditions at first turned into a great day for golf. With four clubs in contention for the Presidents Cup, the play turned out to be as bright as the conditions.

The day started with both Templeton and Russley on the same match points in the lead. On tiebreak, half a game advantage, had Templeton in first. Close behind these two were Waitikiri and Clearwater.

The key matches were Templeton vs Coringa, Russley vs Clearwater and Waitikiri vs Bottle Lake. There were tense individual games with the results often settled on the very last green. Team Managers stressing over each shot. Drama saw close, but friendly competition.

Waitikiri vs Bottle Lake came down to the last putt on the last green giving Waitikiri a 5-3 win over their neighbours. Russley vs Clearwater also was settled on the 18th sharing a draw, but a close win by Templeton 4.5-3.5 over Coringa meant Templeton held on to win the competition overall.

Champions of the Presidents Competition

Templeton - 20pts, 61 games (also last year's Champions)

Runner-Up

Waitikiri - 19pts, 62 games

Third

Russley - 19pts, 60 games

Brent Davies, Waitikiri (pictured left with Clearwater's Norm Bland) took out the MVP award with his match winning putt to give his team the win over Bottle Lake. Congratulations to Brent for a great season long performance, with 10 wins from 13 matches.

Thanks to Aiden and the Clearwater team for ensuring that all of the visitors had a great day.

Thanks to all the clubs and players who took part, provided their courses and supported those players across this season. The sprit in which all players and clubs took part, regardless of results, win or lose, is what our sport is all about. To quote one of my golf mentors: "Golf is more than Golf".
