Fitzpatrick wins season-ender in Dubai for second time

English golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick won the European Tour’s season-ending event for the second time last month.

Fitzpatrick, one of the few professionals to putt with the flagstick in the hole, had rounds of 68, 68, 69 and 68 for a 15-under par total in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. It repeated his win in the same event in 2016.

With his detailed knowledge of the Jumeriah Golf Estate’s Earth Course, Fitzpatrick was the personification of consistency throughout the tournament.

He finished each round either atop or second on the leaderboard and is now a six-time European Tour winner at the of 26. First prize was 2.4 million euros, which is about $NZ4.2 million.

Reflecting on his win, Fitzpatrick said: “I wanted to win here all week and the strides that I have made with my game over the past weeks have allowed me to feel like it’s all coming together.

``I felt like I was playing really well over the tournament.”
