A number of New Zealand golf professionals have been in the mix on various tours over the weekend, spearheaded by former world number one Lydia Ko.

Ko finished runner-up at the Marathon LPGA Classic after being in control of the tournament for the majority of the final day. A costly double bogey on the last hole of the tournament took her out of the lead and into a share of second place.

Despite a disappointing finish, Ko displayed the style of golf she knows she is capable of and it’s only a matter of time until she gets back in the winner’s circle once again.

She fired rounds of 64, 65, 68, and 73 to finish at 14-under par for the event, one shot back of the winner and good friend Danielle Kang.

Ko now moves into 12th position on the Race to CME Globe standings.

She now shifts her attention to the Ladies Scottish Open next week and then the Women’s British Open the following week.

On the European Tour, big-hitting Ryan Fox has finished in a tie for 19th at the English Championship.

He carded rounds of 67, 67, 66, and 71 to finish at 13-under for the tournament and a whopping 14 shots behind the champion Andy Sullivan.

Fox got off to a horrible start in his final round, making two bogey’s and a double bogey in his opening nine to make the turn in two-over par.

He dropped another shot at the 13th before making three birdies in his final four holes of the tournament to get back to even-par for the day.

He falls a spot in the Race to Dubai standings to 21st.

Michael Campbell also teed it up but failed to make the cut after being one-over after his opening two rounds.

Meanwhile on the Korn Ferry Tour, Steve Alker was making some waves of his own and was in contention after three rounds.

Alker was leading after two rounds with 68 and 65 to be nine-under for the event. However, he closed with rounds of 73 and 76 to fall down the leaderboard and finish at two-under par for the event.

He moves up five places on the Korn Ferry Tour’s season-long points race The 25 to 133rd.

Nick Voke missed the cut with rounds of 78 and 68.

Finally, Danny lee teed it up in the first major of the year at the PGA Championship in San Francisco this week.

Lee shot rounds of 69, 71, 74, and 70 to finish at four-over par and in a tie for 71st.
