MOORE IN JUNIOR GOLF WORLD CUP TEAM

14 year old Clearwater junior Cooper Moore has made the New Zealand Junior team of four boys and three girls to compete in Japan for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup. This is the first team to go since 2018 and will be held in Aichi from 20th June to 23rd June.

The teams chosen are packed with talent and are Boys Under 19. Cooper Moore (Clearwater), Robby Turnbull (Remuera), Stephen Liu ( Royal Auckland), and Zack Swanwick (Napier).

Girls Under 19. Fiona Xu (Titirangi), Eunsio Choi (Takapuna), Vivian Lu (Royal Auckland).

National Coach Jay Carter and Talent Development Officer Liz McKinnon will travel with the team and McKinnon said “We are looking forward to this opportunity for the players. This event provides a great test of golf against some of the world’s best young players. The Chukyo Club course will be challenging.             

AMELIA GARVEY QUALIFIES FOR THE US OPEN

World Number one Lydia Ko will have company at the US Open as Cantabrian Amelia Garvey has qualified for the 78th edition to be played at the famous Pebble Beach links from July 5-9.

Garvey was a little off the pace after a first round 73 but an outstanding second round 70, with three consecutive birdies on the back nine saw her into a four person playoff which she won with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

The course was a very tough and hilly one with thick rough and fast greens, very much akin to a US Open setup.
