New Zealand Golf moves office to Remuera Golf Club
By Dean Murphy
New Zealand Golf Chief Executive
Earlier this month New Zealand Golf moved its national office from the North Shore of Auckland to a new facility at the Remuera Golf Club in Auckland.
New Zealand Golf has for some time been working on a Home of Golf project that had the goal of establishing a dedicated administration headquarters for New Zealand Golf. This project followed the national facility study carried out by an independent firm in 2013. Following a process that sought expressions of interest from the golf sector, we thoroughly reviewed 11 applications based on a set range of criteria including location, facilities and the proposed financial model.
Following this thorough process, in late 2016, the board of New Zealand Golf elected the Remuera club as the preferred candidate for the future home of the New Zealand Golf administration headquarters. The new national office space started out as a rundown basement used for trundler storage. However, after a full renovation over a three-month period it is now a sensational office space that has many heads turning as golfers walk off the nearby 18th green.
New Zealand Golf was previously based in a commercial building which while adequate, was not meeting the needs of the organisation. Given our business is golf, it is far preferable to be closer aligned to the game and to be based at a golf facility. Additionally, the new location at Remuera Golf Club has access to meeting rooms, conference rooms, a café, bar and restaurant plus a golf course and training facilities.
In addition, there is significant onsite storage for all New Zealand Golf’s tournament equipment. New Zealand Golf requires use of these facilities regularly so to have them all in one place at the national headquarters is an ideal and very cost effective outcome.
After a great deal of work by many parties, I’m pleased to say we are all moved in and fully operational. While we have only been here a few weeks, I must say we have been overwhelmed by the support received from the Remuera Golf Club. The club is very progressive and outstandingly lead by manager Chris Davies and we couldn’t be happier that they are our new landlords.
Perhaps most significantly, the move to Remuera will enable significant savings for New Zealand Golf. While we are incurring several set-up costs in year one that mean our rental costs will remain at current levels for the first year, from year two New Zealand Golf will save a significant amount of money. Importantly, the lease investment from New Zealand Golf also stays in the golf sector rather than the commercial world which is a great additional benefit for the game.
Next time you are in Auckland and driving past the club, pop in and say hello. We’d love to show around our new office.
