Nelson Golf Club Pro Am 2024

Nelson Golf Club Pro Am 2024

Following great work by Blair Riordan from Total Golf assisted by Tony Watkins and Derek Drysdale from Nelson Golf Club in securing sponsorship and team entries, 29 teams set out on Tuesday October 1st for the 1st round of this 2 day tournament. Professionals from all over NZ came to battle for the wonderful trophy and also to mix with hopeful amateurs to fight for the honour of winning the tournament.

Superintendent, Greg Galway and his team presented Nelson golf course in fantastic condition, with first class greens being greeted with wonderful praise from everyone who played in the event.

Tuesday was the better day weather wise and the joint leading Pro’s after round 1 on 4 under were Mako Thompson and local Pro, Sean Riordan.

The leading team with 94 stableford points were, Mark Sheehan, Alan Bradnock, & Scott Sanders.

Very bad weather was forecast for Wednesday, so organisers made the good move to start early, to try to beat the promised rains. That worked well, as it was only for the last few holes that the rain arrived.

Mako Thompson carried on his great form, and took the Title and trophy by finishing 11 under par, a great result indeed. In 2nd place on 9 under was Sean Towndrow and in 3rd place was another local pro, David Riordan on 7 under marking his successful comeback to the pro ranks.
