ALL OUT WAR ON LIV GOLF

ALL OUT WAR ON LIV GOLF

                                                           By Neville Idour

The war on Liv Golf is heating up according to reports in Golf Monthly with more outbursts by players and others plus news that the PGA and DP World Tours are in the final stages of negotiations of an expected deal to form an alliance between the tours. If agreed by the two boards the decision needs to be supported in a vote by 75% of PGA Tour members probably within the next month.

Should this all succeed it should see an end to any LIV golfers being involved in the Ryder Cup as a player or captain.

Meanwhile Rory McIlroy has again had plenty to say opining that LIV golf players are past their peak with their best days behind them. Jon Rahm also weighed in saying the format was not appealing and not a real tournament. He wants to play against the world’s best in the  format golf has always been, with it’s history. However he did admit he could see the attraction for some as a kind of retirement plan.

The strongest condemnation has come from Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee who said “ Both Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson should be removed from the Hall of Fame. They have dishonoured the game.” He was especially critical of Mickelson who is apparently the 11th richest sports star in the world.

As far as Norman is concerned he just wants golf to grow and players to have more opportunities and fans to have more fun.
