LIV GOLF RAMPS UP THE HEAT
LIV GOLF RAMPS UP THE HEAT

The rumour mill around LIV Golf is ramping up big time with strong indications of four world top 20 players about to sign up including a four time major winner according to Flushing Golf. The four players thought to be involved are Brooks Koepka whose brother Chase is playing the Liv Golf Series, Collin Morikawa, Victor Hovland and Xander Schauffele. Others also thought to be linked are Rickie Fowler and Harold Varner III.
There are two four time major winners on the tour at present, Rory McIlroy and Koepka so and it won’t be McIlroy given his forthright statements.
While these are rumours, previous speculation has borne fruit and it will be fascinating to see who moves to LIV Golf next. Signings of the aforementioned players would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the golf world and the initial trickle could well turn to a flood.
Written off by some as merely a big payday for those players past their best or almost there, or for lesser lights, it now seems possible LIV Golf may be a much more influential part of the golf scene. Let’s face it. It is another form of the game, much like cricket’s one day or 20/20 versions so it could have a place on the calendar.
The ongoing criticism of those players who have made the move, from the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas are not likely to produce ongoing good relationships between players. It can only produce a them and us situation. They do not know what the ultimate outcome is going to be.
This may well ultimately prove to be the players way of saying “we want more control of how and where we ply our trade. It may soon be time for dialogue to be engaged in by the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf. Egos may be tested if that was to eventuate.
