BOP -2023 Inter5club Challenge Tournament Results were played recently.
We were very pleased to be able to at last hold the much delayed 12 th annual Inter5club Challenge Tournament Following three years of Covid and weather postponements,.
Host club Opotiki greeted players with fine weather and a very well-prepared course. It was a great relief for Opotiki to finally be able to hold the tournament after the frustration of the many delays, to quote their Club Captain Hamish Maxwell “we were determined that this year no matter what the weather on the day, it would go ahead this time” and this time their determination was indeed well rewarded!
A good field of 76 players consisting of 5 teams each representing one of the Eastern bay clubs turned up to give their best efforts towards winning the coveted trophy that would proclaim their club as the “Best in the Bay”for 2023!
As well as the Teams event , it is an individual competition for everyone with great camaraderie among all the players. Best players on the day were a couple from Kawerau who scooped the pool by topping both the men’s & the women’s list, this was Hyosup Bae [36pts] & Hannah Bae [37pts] - congratulations to them both! Other results for the Men: Terry Reeve [Opo] 36, Micky Huriwaka [Opo] 35, Eric Codlin [Opo]34, Kerry Flay [Kaw] 34, Doug Young [Whk] 33. Also for the Women: Suzanne Nelson [Opo] 37, Dianne Tahuri [Te T] 36, Sharon Howe [Opo] 35, Raylene Morunga [Opo] 34 As the preceding results would seem to indicate, home advantage was significant on the day and this continued through for the Teams results as follows: Opotiki 387pts, Kawerau 371pts, Whakatane 341pts, Te Teko 324 pts, Ohope 315pts.
Many thanks to Opotiki for hosting the tournament and of course congratulations in being awarded the “Best in the Bay” trophy. Next years host will be Te Teko Golf Club, so put it in your calendar for the 1 st Sun in October, 2024 and we look forward to seeing you all there
